Amidst the vibrant energy and iconic skylines of New York, the Global Peace Summit New York 2024 brought together young leaders, diplomats, and advocates from 70+ States at one platform. Known for its diversity and status as a hub of international diploma- cy due to the United Nations, New York sets the perfect stage for empowering youth participation in global peacebuilding. Delegates from varied backgrounds and cultures united to discuss and find solutions to pressing issues like conflict, climate change, and techno- logical mishaps. Overall, the summit emphasized the transforma- tive power of youth, who play a crucial role in shaping sustainable futures. With cross-cultural collaboration at its core, the event also promoted inclusive dialogue, bridged generational gaps, and ensured innovation. Through these collective efforts, the summit supported young delegates to pave the way for a more peaceful and just world.

Next, the Ambassador Ms. Feda M. Abdelhady, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Observ- er Mission of Palestine to the UN, highlighted the struggles of Palestinian youth who fight not only to be heard but to survive amidst crisis and tragedy. She emphasized that the resilience of Palestinian youth serves as an inspiration globally, especially as the world faces interconnected challenges. Moreover, she stated that youth leadership can make significant contributions to addressing global issues, as their inclusion in diplomacy brings diverse perspectives, ensures innovative solutions, and promotes inclusive decision-making. For her, youth participation ensures they become long-term stakeholders in socio-economic develop- ment and peacebuilding, both locally and globally. It is essential to provide them with opportunities to learn, thrive, and enjoy their inherent rights. The adoption of the UN 2030 Agenda in 2015 marked the first recognition by the General Assembly of youth as agents of change. However, according to Ms. Abdelhady, in Palestine, generations have faced dispossession, displacement, and denial of their inalienable right to self-determination.

After the keynote speeches, delegates were intro- duced to each other through an enjoyable ice break- ing session designed to create a welcoming and engaging atmosphere. Activities included interesting games and personal introductions, allowing delegates to step out of their comfort zones. These exercises played a key role in helping participants build rapport, gain confidence, and feel more at ease with one another. Moreover, by knowing each other’s backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, delegates developed a better understanding of each other.
